Communicating in a Diverse Workplace
This one-hour Lunch 'n Learn is for people who speak English as a first language -- to help them facilitate clear communication with their colleagues who are non-native speakers of English.
The business world brings together people with different language backgrounds and cultural reference points. Sometimes those differences result in miscommunication, which is detrimental to achieving business goals. In response to this situation, this short workshop answers two important questions:
- Whattsamatter? (What's the matter?) What everyday speech habits contribute to the problem of miscommunication?
- Whatcnyado? (What can you do?) How can you deliver your message more clearly?
Participants will develop an understanding of the idiosyncrasies of spoken English, as well as some techniques that can minimize the communication gap.
